Advantages and Best Practice of LED Cove and Perimeter Lighting @ Feather Sound Country Club
Oct 15 @ 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Course Title: Advantages and Best Practice of LED Cove and Perimeter Lighting
AIATEMPO101 $mdash; 1.0 AIA CES Learning Unit (HSW)

Power density restrictions frequently competed with and undermined a quality lighting design, with cove and perimeter lighting often falling victim.  The increased availability, energy efficiency, and performance of LED luminaires have now prioritized overall lighting design objectives once again.  We will review the benefits of illuminating the ceiling and vertical surfaces, further outline the benefits of LED linear technology and provide tips for specifying cove and wall grazing luminaires.  Finally, we will review the latest evolution of LED optimized linear cove products.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the value of illuminating the ceiling and vertical surfaces to achieve a quality lighting environment.
  • Understand the benefits that LED linear lighting provides over legacy sources.
  • Explore tips and recommendations for specifying linear luminaires to achieve the desired result.
  • Identify common applications best suited to cove and perimeter lighting.
  • Explore the latest generation of linear cove technology

Lighting, Luminaires, and Integrated Acoustic Solutions @ Feather Sound Country Club
Jan 21 @ 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

PRESENTER:  ZACKERY BELANGER

The combination of acoustics and lighting brings challenges that are of interest to both areas of expertise. For example, acoustics requires large surface areas and materials like felt, which both sharply contrast trends in lighting toward smaller fixtures and transparency. Additionally, since lighting is a source of illumination and acoustics is more incidental, lighting needs to take higher priority in the deployment of fixtures, which means lighting needs to drive the layout, followed by an assessment of acoustic performance. Understanding the similarities and differences between light and sound open new design possibilities for both.

Cost is $30.00 per person (members) / $35.00 per person (non members) and includes lunch.

Your attendance is expected once confirming your RSVP as we reserve food and space. No shows may be asked to prepay for future events to guarantee a reservation. Please cancel or confirm at least 7 days in advance to event (by 1/14/2020).

SPEAKER BIO:

Zackery Belanger has been deeply involved in the integration of lighting and acoustics since 2017. This has included concept design, testing, analysis of performance, application to spaces, and education. His work is driven by the integration of acoustics into architecture, which has in recent years involved the acoustic impact of traditionally non-acoustic objects. He holds M.S. degrees in Physics from Oakland University and Architectural Sciences from Rensselaer. From 2002 – 2010 he worked for Kirkegaard Associates in Chicago, where he consulted and developed acoustic geometries and materials for projects such as Rensselaer’s Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center [EMPAC] in Troy, NY and Royal Festival Hall in London, UK. In 2013 he was named the inaugural Researcher-in-Residence at EMPAC, where he began development of a new framework for the design and assessment of acoustic architecture. He founded the Detroit-based studio Arcgeometer in 2015.

Designing with Advanced Luminaires @ Feather Sound Country Club
Feb 18 @ 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Advanced luminaires are measured far beyond lumens and CRI, and deliver far more than light alone. TM-30, tunable colors, UGR, circadian rhythms, EML, beacons, and LightID notifications will plan an increasingly crucial role in lighting design. The first step is understanding how to calculate and program these new advanced features. But more important is when and where to apply them.

Cost is $30.00 per person (members) / $35.00 per person (non members) and includes lunch.

Your attendance is expected once confirming your RSVP as we reserve food and space. No shows may be asked to prepay for future events to guarantee a reservation. Please cancel or confirm at least 7 days in advance to event (by 2/11/2020).

PRESENTER: GEORGE CLOSS, Edison Price Lighting
George Closs is currently the Sr. Regional Sales Manager for Edison Price Lighting’s Southeast Region. He has been with Edison Price Lighting for 23 years with various management roles in supply chain, engineering, and operations. Prior to Edison Price Lighting, he worked for a Long Island firm that specialized in the design and manufacture of high-tech materials testing equipment. He holds a degress in Mechanical Engineering from Farmingdale State College and degree in Business Management from the SUNY College at Old Westbury.
